Usha Chilukuri Vance, the wife of Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance, and the couple's children have become targets of backlash for their Indian ancestry.
Yes and no, IMO. Kamala Harris probably can’t win, in part because the US electorate are fairly racist and sexist. There is a part of the DNCs calculus that is about winning the general election.
Biden is not the safest choice, and Harris is not a good backup because she is a non-white woman, which means a meaningful proportion of our (frustratingly racist, sexist, and regressive) electorate will simply refuse to vote for her. Pragmatism is the order of the day. I don’t like Newsom for his neoliberal and pro-corporate tendencies, but he’s the best chance to stop fascists from winning this election at this point.
Pragmatism and realpolitik must be the order of the day here. The only questions that the Democratic candidate should be answering at this point is “can you win against the fascists, and will you actually do anything to stop them”. In my eyes, Biden has categorically failed to do the second part; Harris, unfortunately, might not be able to pull out a win due to the prejudice of our electorate; meanwhile, Newsom is a white, heterosexual, wealthy, corporate friendly, vaguely-religious male, who, despite many flaws, does seem to recognize the clear and present danger that fascism poses.
The DNC seems reluctant to back Kamala according to Jen Psaki: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QUtJNbGgZs&t=365
I have to wonder if this is also racially motivated. Hard to say but, regardless the DNC needs to get their shit together.
We reluctant to back Kamala because she’s a cop, sad truth.
“You dislike Kamala because she’s Black. I dislike Kamala because she’s a cop. We are not the same.”

I think the sexism is the more likely issue.
Yeah, which is why Newsom is the safest choice at this point.
Biden is the safest choice because then we have Harris backup anyways.

Why doesn’t Jimmy Carter run with Gavin Newsom as his VP?
I mean… we’re trying to get someone who doesn’t have one foot in the grave, too.
Jimmy Carter has the name recognition that Newsom lacks and Jimmy doesn’t look like the villain CEO in every ‘80’s movie.
