Poll: What should the Stay at Home parent’s job include for chores?
I’ll start. It seems like this is fairly common now but in our house it’s supposed to be anything that gets dirtied or happens during the stay at home parent’s routine, it’s theirs to do along with more time extended chores like the lawn, snow removal, etc. Once the working parent returns, it supposed to become equal chores.
I generally find that the stay at home person tends to stop thinking of their job as a job at some point though. Things start to slack so working parents end up just coming home to doing half the stuff that should’ve been done during the day then being straight up child caretaker since kids want their attention for the rest of the night.
I have at least three buddies that all had the same issues so stay at home all end up having to get jobs to keep them sane or feeling like the work they put in was equal despite daycare basically making the extra income moot.
You should both roughly spend the same time ‘working’ each day, whether that may be an actual job, chores or child care. This also includes breaks, procrastination, travel time and other things that happen both at home or at work.
To make it completely fair, the stay at home parent should be rewarded the same way. Meaning, they have equal control over the money the other one makes.
Yeah that’s pretty on par with what I see in our suburban world. Growing up poor makes hoarding and treat yoself spending hard for some and easy for others too.
It depends on the age of the kids. If they’re not school-age, probably about what I expect people who really work from home to get done. If the kids are in school, then most daily chores and errands are on them.
