Short version is that I expected nerd skills to be required but I was surprised that shit just worked, even my network printer. I even preferred the graphical tools to configure the system and install software instead of the command line. Desktop on Linux has come a really long way.

I have the opposite experience. Last time I tried Linux for daily desktop use was ten years ago and it was so fickle and cumbersome that I went back to Windows and terminals and x-server on virtual machines for my dev needs. A few weeks ago I got a new convertible laptop, hated Windows 11 with passion enough to do the plunge again, prepared to be cursing that shit ain’t up to shit. But… It just worked. Hardware support out of the box. Some quirks obviously but nothing deal breaking. I’m used to containerization on servers and I’ll be damned but Flatpaks are effing awesome. Even Windows games run perfectly. It. Just. Works. I’m almost expecting the entire thing to literally blow up in my face with shards of hope and OLED panel because, you know, Linux desktop experiences of the past. Fingers crossed. Maybe this is the future after all.

Whenever there is a direct consequence of the Trump administration, shout it immediately from the rooftops until people get it. Only talking about it years later at the next election will do nothing because it is already pushed away by the propaganda feed. Use their method of communication but keep it factual and don’t stoop down to their hatred and lies. It’s not about taunting, it’s about informing the uninformed and leading them out of the bubble.

I do here in Sweden despite there is no need. Mostly because it is the convenient place in my kitchen.

Heh. Back in my youth in the 1990s I used dated slang ironically and now it is part of my daily vocabulary. Neither myself or anybody else can tell if it is ironic or not. Now I’m just a middle aged man speaking in a weird capitol city dialect in the second largest city, which by the locals is a crime on its own.

This reminds me of the Lonely Funeral Project in The Netherlands where a poet has taken upon himself to say words at funerals where nobody has claimed the deceased.

I found out about this yesterday when searching for the KDE sources to make some alterations to the lock screen. I guess this distro is not for me.

FYI, you can get a feel for most distros by running it from a LiveCD/USB stick, fiddle about and see what works and what doesn’t.

Get back with results. I switched from Pop!_OS to Fedora KDE today. So far my annoyances with Pop and Gnome are gone and what little I had time to try out with Steam worked well. The kernel is on par with pop. I’m used to Debian based distros and using apt from the command line so it will be a learning experience, but damn the Fedora GUI for packages is streets ahead I must say.

A hacker has hijacked the communication relay and managed to install Doom on the Voyager. The game runs perfectly but the user interface is reported to be somewhat laggy.

So do the enterprise version work with a regular Win 11 (or Win 10 Pro) licence?
